The flowers begin in Duane Michals — blossoms spilling from parted lips, a dream dissolving at its edges. Here they return as embroidery, insistent and uncontained: pinks, yellows, reds enveloping the kneeling figure in colours that refuse ephemerality. The pedestal-lit pose echoes classical ideals of beauty and vulnerability, but the stitched petals do something more than decorate — they reclaim what censorship forced underground, threading what was hidden into something now openly held.
Duane Michals (b. 1932) is an American photographer known for poetic, narrative image sequences that combine photographs with handwritten text to explore emotion, memory, and the unseen. The model is Bill Sabin; the original photograph was taken by the Athletic Model Guild.

The vintage photograph is transferred to dense weave cotton and embroidered with cotton and Japanese gold thread.
